7 Things To Do After Getting Engaged

I get it. All you want to do is bask in the sparkle and see your reflection in your new ring, but there are some important things you need to take care of first so you can truly enjoy your newly engaged status. Here are the 7 things to do right after you get engaged.

TAKE A MOMENT TO YOURSELVES

Don’t call all your friends and family non-stop while he’s still down there on one knee. And hold off on setting that date. Take an hour, a day, even a week to enjoy your newly engaged status and reflect on what it means to both of you. Once that cats out of the bag, it’s out!

GET A MANICURE

Most likely you didn’t go into the proposal prepared with a freshly groomed manicure. Your new sparkler won’t look it’s absolute best with chipped mint green nails. No! Take care of this STAT! From your ring selfie to seeing people in person, everyone is going to be grabbing your hand to see the ring.

TELL YOUR NEAREST AND DEAREST

Do yourself a BIG favor and make sure your mom doesn’t find out on IG! Before you share the news on social media for all to see, make a list of the important people who need to know first and start reaching out. Your bestie’s going to want a phone call, your sister needs a little FaceTime action, and your grandma deserves to hear the news from you directly. Make sure to cross everyone off your list before you make anything Instagram official.

TAKE A SELFIE AND A RING SELFIE

The ring selfie is a great way to share the news on social, but don’t forget to take one of yourselves! Your tears of joy, you kissing holding your hand up exposing the ring. Anything that is uniquely you to capture that once in a lifetime emotional moment. Or ask a stranger nearby to capture you two, it may be blurry or poorly lit, but it will definitely be a keepsake.

TELL EVERYONE ELSE/MAKE IT INSTAGRAM OFFICIAL

It’s that time! Make it IG official with those incredible selfies you took. Make it funny, make it emotional, either way everyone will be thrilled for you!

GET YOUR RING INSURED

First, ask your partner if the ring is already insured. You want to make sure this rock is covered just in case (you never know when you might leave it in a hotel room, scratch it at the gym, or have it stolen from right off your finger – yikes!). Also consider whether or not you need to get it resized, so ensure it fits securely. Take a few photos before you send that sparkler off to the jeweler to tide you over.

BUY A RING HOLDER

While your ring is getting insured and/or resized, now’s the time to get your new rock a place for your nightstand or dresser. Get a beautiful ring box or trinket tray to store at your home in a safe place. You may not want to take it off, but trust me there will be a time where you’ll want to remove it, like if you are painting walls or making meatballs. So you’ll need a place for safekeeping.
